Was that tap on the window
all an ephemeral dream?
Was that furtive dark smile
really more than it seems?

I was given a chance
late on one winter's night,
one that I threw away,
gave up, without a fight.

Sometimes, it seems
you were never real to me.

When our bodies drew close
my senses were pulled under,
but when you drew away,
my poor heart broke asunder.

Sometimes I do wonder
if you ever really know
what it is you do to me,
if you do, it never shows.

Fate, she's too cruel
to give me any peace of mind.

When I sleep I have dreams
where you hold me tight.
I'm warm, safe, and loved,
everything seems so right

I escape from my fantasies
when you're there by my side,
I won't have to be afraid anymore,
and I won't have to hide.

But illusions are so fragile
and I keep them safe within me.

Fleeting seconds of a warm smile
and I wonder is it for me?
Give me that one moment
where it is you that sets me free…

Free to go where my heart leads.
