The Rangers from the North were plain men, their gear weathered by a roving life. Leathers, though oiled and supple, were rubbed at the edges. All-the-better, said Faramir, to pass unseen through the wild places where a straight line would draw the eye. Tunics were passed from father to son; a recruit gifted an old coat alongside a new blade.
A neat Ranger was an oddity. The tall figure before them appeared a statue living, except that mild eyes invited the world in.
The wolf at his feet, deaf or no, seemed to Boromir the more critical of the two.
